Young Sewers Pay Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Our Quilting For A Cause program participants exceeded all expectations in designing and creating a quilt honoring an American hero.

Our Quilting For A Cause program participants exceeded all expectations in designing and creating a quilt honoring an American hero. The group, ages 9-11, worked diligently on their individual squares, expressing their understanding of the civil rights struggle that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. fought, utilizing civil disobedience as a weapon stronger than violence.

Our quilt hangs proudly in the East Lyme Youth Center. We are pleased to be able to display the lessons learned through creating art for youth to enjoy throughout the year!

Claudia Mathison has been a great addition to our programming possibilities! She holds degrees in art education and teaches at the Guilford Art Center, with Young Audiences of CT, and at libraries and museums throughout Connecticut. We are pleased to have her at ELYS as a course instructor.
