Coronavirus East Lyme: 1st Confirmed Case

An East Lyme woman has tested positive for COVID-19, marking the first confirmed case in New London County.

EAST LYME, CT — The first confirmed case of coronavirus in the Ledge Light Health District is in East Lyme. A 44-year-old woman has tested positive, marking the first confirmed case in New London County.

“Positive cases of COVID-19 within our jurisdiction have been expected, as community transmission of the virus continues to occur in Connecticut. LLHD staff will assure that all appropriate CDC protocols regarding positive cases and potential contacts are followed,” Stephen Mansfield, Ledge Light Health District’s Director of Health said in a statement.

As of yesterday there are now 159 confirmed coronavirus cases in Connecticut, up from 96 on Wednesday. Greenwich Hospital reported 44 cases alone. Three Connecticut residents have died as a result of the virus, officials said late Wednesday.

There are 102 cases in Fairfield County, 18 in Hartford County, 7 in Litchfield County, three in Middlesex County, 23, in New Haven County, four in Tolland County and two in Windham County. New London County had yet to confirm a case.

Ledge Light Health District said its main objective is to slow the spread of the virus. “The single best way to slow the spread is to practice social distancing. LLHD recommends that all individuals limit any unnecessary person-to-person contact until further notice,” said Mansfield.

Social distancing is crucial in helping to reduce the spread of the virus and limit the number of people who are infected.

Ledge Light Health District said it will continue to work with local and state partners to prepare for widespread community transmission of COVID-19.
