Counterfeit Bills Passed At East Lyme Business: Police

East Lyme police are seeking the public's help to find the culprit.

EAST LYME, CT — Counterfeit $20 bills have been passed recently at an unnamed East Lyme business, and local police are asking for the public's help in catching the culprit. The name of the business has not been disclosed, nor was a date given for when the incidents occurred.

East Lyme police posted about it on the department's Facebook page (see below).

"We urge all business's and residents to pay close attention to cash currency that you receive," officials wrote. "Anyone with information regarding the local counterfeiting of currency is urged to contact the East Lyme Police Department at 860-739-5900, using the East Lyme PD App, or by texting ELPD, space, then your tip to 847411."

East Lyme is not the only Connecticut community where such bills have been used. In recent weeks, counterfeit currency has been passed multiple times at businesses in Darien in Fairfield County.
