East Lyme Police Issue Warning About Bank Scams
The victims in these scams receive a telephone call with a 'spoofed' number indicating it was from their bank, police said.
EAST LYME, CT — East Lyme police have issued a warning following recent attempts at banking scams.
Police posted the following on Facebook:
"In recent days we have had several residents fall victim to bank related scams. The victims received a telephone call with a 'spoofed' number indicating it was from their bank. The caller represents themselves as a bank representative inquiring if a transaction was authorized. When the victim states no, the caller indicates that they need some information in order to identify the charge as fraudulent. That information then allows the perpetrator to access the victims bank account and steal money.
