CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training

East Lyme Emergency Management will be hosting a free CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training at the East Lyme Police Department on Wednesday evenings from March 20th through May 8th, 2013 from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with one Saturday class April 20th from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. This course is offered to any resident of Southeastern Connecticut that wishes to gain the necessary certification to assist others in their community following an event when 1st responders are not immediately available. After the wrath of Hurricane Sandy and most recently Storm Nemo, it became clear that CERT volunteers are desperately needed in our area to assist with all aspects of disaster preparedness. Participants will learn about preparation for an impending incident, and be taught basic response skills such as: fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, animal response and shelter operations. Please consider becoming a volunteer. You can make a difference.  Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Class is open to the first 25 applicants.
