The Friends of Fort Trumbull State Park To Present Rick Spenser- To End All Wars: Songs of the First World War
Friends of Fort Trumbull- July Meeting

The Friends of Fort Trumbull are pleased the welcome back popular folk musician Rick Spencer who will perform, as our July presenter,-Songs of the First World War. There is no better way to bring the history of this period to life than to listen to these songs. For the families at home and the men on the battlefield, these inspirational songs expressed patriotism, tragedy, grief, hope, and even some humor. They were a way of uniting and inspiring the combatants and the general citizenry.
Rick is known internationally for his work as a historian, researcher, singer, songwriter and performer of music in the American Folk Tradition. He has served as Site Administrator of the Hempsted Houses in New London and as the Executive Director of the Dr. Ashbel Woodward Museum in Franklin, CT. He is presently the Secretary for the Board of Directors of the New London County Historical Society.
In 1986, Rick was hired as a staff musician, researcher, and historical interpreter at Mystic Seaport, the Museum of America and the Sea, where he became a member of “Forebitter”, an internationally renowned sea- music group. For the past 20 years he has worked aboard tall ships from the days of sail and has been an instructor on sailing ships in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
