Groton Man Charged With DWI After 911 Calls About Erratic Driver
A 56-year-old Groton man was charged with DWI after 911 callers reported him crashing into mailboxes, guardrail and driving into a marsh.

EAST LYME, CT—Monday afternoon, a flood of 911 calls came in to report an erratic driver who police said said struck at least three mailboxes that were located off the roadway, and a guardrail, before driving off of the roadway and into a marsh. Police said David McFadden, 56, of Groton, was wildly driving a red Chevy pickup on Old Black Point Road.
East Lyme Police Chief Michael Finkelstein said that when police arrived, McFadden, who was the truck's only occupant, "displayed obvious signs of impairment" during field sobriety testing conducted by officers.
McFadden was taken into custody without incident, Finkelstein said, and taken to the Waterford Police Department.
