Groundbreaking Delayed For East Lyme Costco: Report

The store had planned to break ground last month.

EAST LYME, CT — Delays in the permitting process have slowed the groundbreaking on the planned new Costco at East Lyme's Gateway Commons, but the project is moving forward, writes The Day.

The project was supposed to break ground last month, but when construction will finally start has not been disclosed. A housing complex is already at the 200-acre site, and the big-box store will kick off the retail element at the development.

Costco had sought to build the store, then pulled out in 2017, and then earlier this year decided again to build it. The store will measure nearly 160,000 square feet.
