ID Released After Fatal Boating Accident On Connecticut River: UPDATE

UPDATE: The victim of Friday's boating accident on the Connecticut River has been identified as Preston Roane, 39, of East Hampton, state officials said.

"The staff of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection offer our sincere condolences to Mr. Roane's family and loved ones. The incident remains under investigation," said DEEP Spokesperson Bill Flood.

LYME, CT — A person died Friday after being ejected from a jet ski on the Connecticut River, according to the Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection.

DEEP Spokesperson Bill Flood said in an email the department's Environmental Conservation Police officers responded to a personal watercraft accident on the Connecticut River.

According to Flood, an EnCon Police vessel on a routine patrol of the river north of Selden Neck State Park around 2 p.m. was flagged down by another boater.

Based on witness statements, a jet ski struck a wake, ejecting the operator into the water, according to Flood.

The person was rescued from the water and EnCon officers assisted in transporting them to shore, where they were met by Chester fire and EMS crews, Flood said.

The person was taken to Middlesex Hospital with serious injuries and later died as a result of the incident, according to Flood.

The name of the person has not been released by DEEP.

An investigation is being led by EnCon Police, Flood said.
