Petition Circulating for Niantic Elementary School to Reinstate Canceled Halloween Celebration

The school had recently decided their annual parade and wearing costumes was eliminated.

NIANTIC, CT – A Halloween celebration at a Niantic elementary school that had been cancelled may be saved, according to media reports.

Lillie B. Haynes School sent out a letter to parents on Oct. 19 that this year’s Halloween parade will be cancelled, according to Fox 61. It furthermore said that the parade has been “eliminated,” as is the wearing of costumes in school.

A petition has recently begun circulating around asking for the celebration to go on, News 8 reported. The petition currently has 206 signatures, 86 of which are from Niantic and the rest of which are from surrounding areas.

The goal of the petition is 1,000 signatures to then present to the superintendent, according to News 8. Administration had pointed toward safety concerns, specifically the recent clown issues, to be a factor in their decision to cancel.
