Police: Intoxicated Mass. Woman Hit Fence, Halting Train Traffic

Elizabeth L. Carlotta, 49, of Otis, Mass., was allegedly intoxicated when she crashed into a fence behind the Main Street Grille in Niantic.

EAST LYME, CT—East Lyme police say the 49-year-old Massachusetts woman who crashed her car into a fence near the Main Street Grille in Niantic, damaging property and temporarily halting Amtrak service, was allegedly under the influence of drugs or alcohol. East Lyme police charged her, chief Michael Finkelstein said.

Elizabeth L. Carlotta of Otis, Mass., is alleged to have collided with the wire barrier between the Grille's parking lot and the train tracks, and then shifted into reverse, backing into a spot. Police located her at a neighboring business.

The Day reported that Amtrak stopped train service for a short period of time to make sure "trains could pass the bent fence safely."
