Woman Charged With Cashing Fraudulent East Lyme School Checks: Police
A woman has been charged in connection with a scheme that defrauded East Lyme Public Schools of $104,510, police said.
EAST LYME, CT -- Police have arrested a woman charged with having a role in a scheme to cash $104,510 in fraudulent checks written against the East Lyme Public Schools district's account, according to a police statement. Heidi Cecilio, 28, of Bronx, NY, was charged with first-degree larceny.
East Lyme police launched an investigation May 18 following a complaint from the town's finance director stating that multiple fraudulent checks were cashed at banks in Bronx, NY and Moreno Valley, CA.
Police reviewed the cashed checks and found they were fraudulently created using the school district's banking information and not actual Town of East Lyme checks.
