Woman Hit, Killed by Tractor Trailer on I-95 in Old Lyme While Checking on 2-Year Old

Police have identified the victim who was hit and killed by a tractor trailer on the interstate this week.

OLD LYME, CT — A Middletown woman was killed in Old Lyme on Thursday after being struck by a tractor trailer while checking on her 2-year old child in the backseat, according to media reports.

State police have identified the victim as Ashley Ferguson, 32, who had pulled over to the right shoulder of I-95 southbound between Exits 70 and 71 before being hit, according to Fox 61. She had pulled over to check on her 2-year old girl seated in the backseat.

Ferguson was declared dead on the scene, according to NBC Connecticut. The child and adult passenger in the car were not injured, however the child was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

I-95 Southbound was closed between Exits 71 and 70 around 11:34 a.m., according to the DOT website. Police said a fuel spill resulted in DEEP/environmental services' response for cleanup.

The driver of the truck, identified as Nicolae Marcu, 47, of New Hampshire, was also not injured in the incident, NBC Connecticut reported. The accident remains under investigation.
