115 MPH Ticket On I-84 Leads To Stolen Goods Recovery: State Cops

State Police: A man with a New York identification card was caught with thousands worth of stolen merchandise in his car on I-84.

TOLLAND, CT — A man with a New York identification card was caught with thousands worth of stolen merchandise in his car after being caught driving 115 mph on a stretch of Interstate-84, state police said.

Jesse Rivera, 26, was charged with fourth-degree larceny Saturday, state police said. He is due in court on May 13, after posting a $5,000 bond, state police said.

The traffic stop took place on Jan. 26. At 8:54 p.m., a trooper spotted a gray Toyota Corolla with a plate that did not belong on the car traveling at 115 mph, according to a report.

Rivera, the driver, said he had spent a couple of days in Boston, according to a warrant.

A subseqent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of more than $7,500 worth of stolen items traced to several stores in the region, according to a warrant. The trunk was filled with power tools and consumer electronics, according to a warrant.

In all, he had 55 items suspected to be stolen, according to a warrant.

The warrant was applied for after an inventory of the confiscated goods, state police said.
