After Pair Of Brush Fires, Tolland Open Burning Warning Extends Into This Week

TOLLAND, CT — After two brush fires over the weekend, a fire danger warning has been extended into this week in Tolland.

"The fire danger for Tolland today is high," fire officials said. "Please no open burning and be careful not to produce any sparks outside. Please dispose of wood ashes in a metal bucket and soak the ashes with water before dumping them outside. If you see a fire, call 911 immediately."

Though it was under control relatively, a brush fire was located between Pine Hill Road and the 500 block of Mile Hill Road Saturday and created a tense situation, fire officials said.

Fire units responded to Zinfandel Circle for a second brush fire Saturday.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is reporting a high brush fire risk statewide, with some areas at high risk.

The warnings are following dry weather, low humidity, and breezy winds, which can cause fires to spread quickly, fire officials said.

Connecticut is currently in its spring fire season (mid-March–May), when dead vegetation ignites easily, according to the DEEP.
