Clerk Rips Plate Off Getaway Car During Tolland Robbery: Warrant

State police have made a second arrest in a 2021 cigarette robbery at a Tolland gas station.

TOLLAND, CT — A warrant shows that an alert clerk ripped the registration plate off the getaway car in a robbery at the Mobil Station on Merrow Road in Tolland more than a year ago, a move that led to a break in the case for invstigators.

Lazuan Bell, 52, of Windsor, was charged Monday with second-degree robbery, third-degree larceny, second-degree criminal mischief and third-degree assault in the case. It's not the first arrest related the caper.

Bell is accused of teaming up with a woman to rob the Mobil Mart at 12:59 a.m.

According to an incident report, a woman entered the store and began stealing cigarette cartons. When confronted by the store attendant, a man entered the establishment and began to "assault and restrain" the attendant, according to a report.

After the robbers broke loose, the clerk was able to rip the registration off their Honda before they fled the scene, according to a warrant.

A witness could not obtain a good description of the two because of dark window tints, according to a warrant.

The registration number and surveillance images led police to finding the Honda, according to a warrant.
