Dear Residents of Tolland,
We are at a critical juncture with our town budget referendum. It is essential to understand the consequences if this budget fails. Four members of the Town Council have already shown their willingness to severely cut the Board of Education (BOE) budget, and they have indicated that another failed referendum will result in further devastating cuts to our schools.
From recent social media posts, it is evident that these members care about the "will of the people" only when it aligns with their beliefs. They have openly stated that if residents vote "no" because they believe education spending is too low, they have no intention of listening to the voters of Tolland. Remember this when going to the polls in the next municipal election.
The Republicans on the Town Council have already decimated the BOE budget and publicly declared that another failed referendum will only lead to more budget cuts. These continuous cuts are damaging to our children, Schools and our community. In attempt at bipartisanship, the Democrats on the Town Council proposed a budget lower than they were comfortable with, in an effort to reach a consensus. However, the four council members showed no interest in working together, focusing solely on partisan ideology.
While these four members hoard taxpayer money, our students face continued cuts to programs and services and staff are forced to do more with less. We are trying to salvage what is left and provide a stable future for our community.
