Driver With 'WILL RUN' On Fake Plates Doesn't Get Far From Cops In Tolland, Vernon, Report Says

TOLLAND, CT — A driver with a reputation of trying to bait police into pursuits didn't get far from state police in Tolland to start the weekend, an arrest report indicates.

The incident took place at 8:32 p.m. on Friday, state police said.

According to an arrest report, at that time, a trooper on patrol noticed a white Kia Optima with fake registration plates that said "WILL RUN" head past him near the Fieldstone Commons shopping center in Tolland.

The vehicle had been involved in several police pursuits in the area in recent weeks, including one minutes earlier, according to an arrest report.

The trooper saw the driver, identified as 26-year-old Ansonia resident Jake Batura Ratches, exit his vehicle and approached him, according to an arrest report. He had just eluded Vernon police, according to an arrest report.

A consent search determined the car was uninsured and unregistered, in addition to having the fake plate, and fentanyl was also located inside the vehicle, according to an arrest report. Ratches also had no driver's license, according to an arrest report.

State police charged him with the DMV violations, plus possession of a controlled substance.

He was to appear in court Monday on a $100,000 bond, records show.
