Firefighters Battle Tolland Blaze In Frigid Conditions

Cold temperatures made an intense fire even more complicated in Tolland Saturday.

TOLLAND, CT — Firefighters braved frigid conditions Saturday to battle an attic fire in Tolland.

Wind chills were well below zero degrees when the broke about late Saturday morning on Fieldstone Drive.

First arriving units encountered flames on the upper floor and in the attic, fire officials said. Units from the Crystal Lake, Ellington, Somers, West Stafford and town of Vernon fire departments were quickly called to the scene along with medical units from Vernon to stand by because of the weather, fire officials said. Neighbors also brought hot coffee to the responders.

No injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation by the Tolland Fire Marshal's office.

Water running downhill from the driveway froze as it made its way down a driveway, and the Tolland Department of Public Works had to respond to the scene to treat the icy roads, officials said.
