First Accumulating Snow Keeps State Police Busy in Tolland County
Snow-related crashes kept state police busy in Tolland, Stafford, Willington, Ellington and Mansfield on Thursday.

TOLLAND, CT — The first accumulating snow kept state police from the Troop C barracks busy in Tolland county on Thursday.
Here are a few highlights of a plethora of crashes that included utility poles, a town truck and a plow:
- 6:07 p.m., Tolland: A 1998 Honda Civic was heading down a steep incline on Mile Hill Road when it could not stop in time for a 2013 Nissan Rogue that was "perpendicular," in the northbound lane, according to a report. The Civic then bounced off the Rogue and hit a 2011 Ford Fusion heading up the hill, according to a report.
- 6:14 p.m., Ellington: A 2005 Ford Taurus was traveling west on Wapping Wood Road and was approaching the Grant Hill Road intersection, a report indicates. It slid while the driver was trying to turn left and slammed against a curb and was then hit by a 2014 Jeep Cherokee, according to a report. No injuries were reported.
- 6:26 p.m., Mansfield: A 2006 Jeep Cherokee was stopped at a red light at the Intersection of state routes 320 and 195, according to a report. A 2005 BMW X5 was making a right turn to head east on Route 320 when it hit the Jeep, according to a report. No injuries were reported.
- 6:53 p.m., Willington: A 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan was heading north on Ruby Road when it skidded on a snowy road and struck a Frontier Communications pole, according to a report. The pole was fractured at the base and the van sustained disabling damage, according to a report.
- 6:59 p.m., Stafford: The driver of an Infiniti G35AWD lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of state routes 140 and 190 and hit two Department of Transportation signs, according to a report. There were no reported injuries.
- 8:51 p.m., Mansfield: A wrecker from are area garage was traveling westbound on Crane Hill Road when it veered off the right side of the road and stuck a utility pole, according to a report. The driver told state police he was not injured and refused medical treatment at the scene, but then said he would be going to an area hospital in his own "to get checked out," state police said.
- 9:04 p.m.: Tolland: A town of Tolland snowplow was traveling south on Route 30 near Hurlburt Road when it slowed down to make a right turn, according to a report. A 2008 Toyota Tacoma, traveling directly behind the plow truck, could not slow down and slid into the back of it, according to a report. The pickup truck driver suffered a bruised leg and the plow truck operator was not injured, according too a report.
