Gear Up for Back to School

Put away the bathing suits and rinse off the beach chairs. Summer is coming to an end, and the school year is right around the corner.

To help parents prepare for the start of school on August 31, the Tolland Elementary PTO will be hosting the Back-to-School Bonanza on August 29 at Tolland Intermediate School. 

“Volunteers will put together all their folders, pencils, expo dry erase markers, pencils boxes, glue sticks and crayons,” said PTO Communications and Publicity head Christine Zonghetti. Students who preordered these supplies will be able to pick up their school toolboxes during the event.

For those who didn’t preorder, the PTO will also be selling school spirit supplies and calendars at the bonanza. Parents can also get a start on the lunch program and make a payment for the first day of school.

Tolland Intermediate School students will get the added bonus of saying hello to their new teachers.

“While they’re picking up their toolboxes, they’ll be meeting their teachers and checking out their classrooms,” Zonghetti said. Birch Grove Primary School and the intermediate school will be holding their open houses on August 30.

The PTO is still looking for volunteers and encourages interested parties to check out the PTO Web site.

The bonanza runs from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
