To the Editor:
I have wanted to reach out to the residents of the Town of Tolland and publicly thank a few of you for your incredible professionalism and compassion during a traumatic afternoon this past May 12th.
During a spirited youth soccer match between two fine U14 girls soccer teams, one of our players suffered a broken tibia. It was a complete sports accident where our player was injured by getting her foot stuck in the grass, not because of a collision. In the moments immediately following this injury, Club President, Tom Dennis took proper control of the situation, comforting our player, calling 911, and calming down shocked parents, players and coaches. He was composed at a time when it was needed most and your Soccer Club is lucky to have a person like this in the position of President.
Your local EMS was equally thorough and professional. Upon arrival to the park, the crew immediately comforted the player, stabilized the leg and quickly transported her to Children's Hospital. The player's father and other parents on hand commented how great of a job this EMS crew did on this scene.
The Black Thunder coaches, players and parents also deserve a pat on the back. In the days and weeks to follow, our player received gift packages, cards, and candy from the Black Thunder "family." What a great example of learning great lessons in life through sports, the victories, losses, and even injuries. Head Coach Greg Lachut has done a great job coaching your girls for the past several years, but learning good sportsmanship is just as important and it quite evident that he has succeeded in both facets.
