TOLLAND, CT — A 30-year-old Manchester man has been charged in relation to a springtime all-terrain vehicle crash in Tolland that left children injured.

On Saturday, Shawn Robertson was charged on a warrant with the negligent operation of a snowmobile/ATV, evading responsibility in a crash with physical damage, and three counts of risk of injury to a child.

At 8:10 on the night of May 31, state police responded to a call about an ATV crash involving children at a home on Mountain Spring Road in Tolland. According to a warrant, troopers located a 6-year-old girl with a head laceration and a 9-year-old girl in the kitchen who was lethargic, weak and "had difficulty staying alert."

According to a warrant, Robertson has been operating the ATV with the two girls and another girl on board when it crashed at about 8 p.m. Robertson left the property after being hit in the face by the father of the 6-year-old. A report outlined in a warrant showed that Robertson could have been going too fast to negotiate a left-hand turn and crashed into a tree in a wooded area.

The girls recovered from their injuries, according to a warrant. There was no indication in a warrant whether or not the children were using protective headgear.
