Merry C Garrett of Tolland Connecticut Casts Town's First "EARLY VOTE"
On March 26, 2024, Merry C. Garrett was the first citizen in her town to cast a vote in states 1st ever early voting.

Tolland resident Merry C. Garrett, who is running for the state legislature this fall in the 35th Senate District as the democratic candidate, cast the town's first vote at 6:00 a.m. on March 26 during the town’s early voting period for Connecticut’s April 2 Presidential Preference Primary. Her husband of over 30 years Albert Garrett Jr. was second in line. They arrived 40 minutes early. "We arrived early because this is a historical day for Connecticut," Al Garrett said.
“Early voting provides more flexibility for people to make their voice heard and thus will help increase voter participation,” Merry Garrett said. “Everyone deals with their daily responsibilities and sometimes that can conflict with getting to the polls on Election Day. Voting is a cornerstone of our democracy, and we should make it easier not harder for people to exercise their constitutional right to vote.”
This is the first-year early voting is available for Connecticut residents and is a result of a new state law and constitutional amendment approved overwhelmingly by voters in 2022.
