Each year a Tolland player is selected for the scholarship.
Middleton was the captain of the 2013 THS team that began the season with a seven-game winning streak. The Eagles tied Northwest Catholic and East Catholic for the CCC East Conference title and finished with the best record in program history at 13-6.
Tolland earned the No. 3 seed in the Class S state tournament, defeated Northwest Catholic in the first round and lost to Morgan of Clinton in the quarterfinals.
Middleton was selected to the CCC East All-Conference team and was named second team All-State on defense.
He will be attending Western Connecticut State University in the fall.
Said coach Victor Hurtuk, "Larry was an ideal captain and leader for the program's 10th team, which started in 2003. He led by example as he made sure he was the hardest working player on the field. He was key in taking younger players under his wing and giving verbal advice to boost confidence. Larry proved his true worth as he played with an injured shoulder for much of the second half of the season."
Middleton was second ground balls for THS and scored two goals.
