Police Dog Nabs Suspect Hiding In Tolland Shed

A police dog caught a suspect hiding in a shed in Tolland who is now facing drug charges, state police said.

TOLLAND, CT — A driver who was caught hiding in a shed by a police dog after fleeing the scene of a rear-end collision in Tolland wound up with drug charges, state police said.

The initial call came into state police as an evading crash at 2:33 p.m. Sunday, according to a report.

State police were told by witnesses that one vehicle had fled the scene — a "small silver two-seater sports car," according to a report.

Troopers combed the area and the car was eventually located at 111 Hartford Turnpike. The operator, later identified as Joseph Bovino 20, was not with his vehicle and it was suspected that he had fled the area on foot. Trooper First Class Peter Groot and his canine partner 'Ugo' conducted a search and located Bovino hiding in a shed at a residence in Tolland.

Bovino was placed under arrest and transported to Troop C, where he was charged with evading responsibility, misuse of a license plate, failure to have minimum insurance, operating a motor vehicle while under suspension, failure to travel at a reasonable distance, interfering with an officer, possession of more than a half-ounce of marijuana, and nartotics possession with the intent to sell.

Bovino was released on a $50,000 cash/surety bond and is scheduled to appear at Rockville Superior Court on April 1 state police said.
