Referendum Failure

As many of you are aware, the recent referendum on the town budget did not pass. This is a concerning development that has significant implications for our town, particularly in relation to the budget allocation for the Board of Education.

It is crucial that we take action to prevent further cuts to the BOE budget. These cuts not only impact our children's education but also have far-reaching effects on our community as a whole. The Tolland Democratic Town Committee urge you to join us in writing to the Town Council to express our opposition to any additional cuts to the BOE budget. The Town Council has a special meeting tonight. Write in, join through Zoom and attend in person. towncouncil@tollandct.gov
Furthermore, there is the looming threat of potential cuts to town staff and services. This could have detrimental effects on the quality of life for all residents of Tolland. We cannot stand idly by while essential services are put at risk. It is important to note that the town currently has over $11 million in taxpayer funds that remain unused. We urge the Town Council to consider using a portion of these funds to address the budget shortfall and prevent further cuts to vital services.
If you voted "no" on the budget because you believe it is too low, we encourage you to make your voice heard by writing to the Town Council. We need to challenge the narrative that budget referendums fail only because they are perceived as too high. Every opinion matters, and it is essential that the Town Council hears from the community.
We urge all Tolland Residents to join me in advocating for a fair and equitable budget that prioritizes the needs of our community, including adequate funding for education and essential services. Together, we can work towards a brighter future for Tolland.
Best,

Tolland Democratic Town Committee
