TOLLAND, CT — A seminar on identifying, reporting and preventing hate crimes is being offered in Tolland this week.

The free seminar is slated for Oct. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tolland United Congregational Church on the Tolland Green.

The seminar is being offered by the Connecticut State Police Hate Crimes Unit, the U.S. Department of Justice and the FBI.

The goal of the program is to "raise community awareness and discuss how hate incidents are handled on the local, state and federal level." The training will go over the difference between hate crimes and hate incidents, who to contact if an incident occurs and the importance of reporting the incidents.

The event is being coordinated by PFLAG Tolland-Mansfield and the United Congregational Church.
