TOLLAND, CT β€” A 31-year-old Hartford woman is facing felony forgery charges after fudging veterinary prescriptions to benefit her own pets after calling out sick several times from the practice at which she had been employed, state police said.

Mariah Acevedo was charged with three counts of second-degree forgery on Nov. 29, according to a warrant. She is due in Rockville Superior Court on Dec. 14, records show.

The veterinarian at the Tolland-based practice filed the complaint in August. Acevedo had been employed at the practice as a receptionist for about a year, but has since been dismissed, according to a warrant.

Acevedo is accused of cleaning out her belongings at the practice that July and calling out sick for two days because of a cold, according to a warrant.

She repeatedly called out sick with other stated ailments like a migraine, according to a warrant.

She is accused of then logging into the practice's computer system while out and forging prescriptions for her own pets, according to a warrant.

Her access to the system was then eliminated, according to a warrant.
