Update: Funeral Scheduled for Tolland Public Works Employee

Calling hours and a funeral have been scheduled for David Ridzon, 50, of Willington, a Tolland Public Works employee who was killed during an accident while he was filling potholes Thursday.

“Two dedicated employees were assigned a task which they have performed hundreds of times in the past, filling pot holes and as a result one employee is no longer with us,” he said in a statement.

The incident is being investigated by State Police, Werbner said. The deceased employee’s identity isn’t being released at this time.

The Tolland Town Council released a statement about Ridzon’s passing:

“The Tolland Town Council is deeply saddened by the passing of David Ridzon, a Laborer in the Department of Public Works, a friend to his co-workers, and husband and father to his family. We extend our heartfelt condolences and sympathies to his wife Kim and to his children, and we grieve with them in their loss.”

The council added that Ridzon was part of a crew that provided exceptional road repair that Tolland residents have enjoyed for years.

“As we drive through town, we will be reminded of his dedicated efforts for years to come even as those who knew Dave are grieving his passing. It will be hard to see the efforts of our Department of Public Works and not wonder if we’re witnessing his handiwork. And as we ride, walk or drive through town, we have no doubt that we will realize that he died as he served our community, and we will see these efforts in a different, more-appreciative light.”

The accident happened happened near 60 Anderson Rd.

The family will receive friends at Potter Funeral Home on Monday, March 23, 2015 from 5-8:00PM. A funeral procession will depart Potter Funeral Home at 9:00AM on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 for a memorial service to be held at the United Congregational Church in Tolland CT, at 10:00AM.
