TOLLAND, CT - A Tolland man who told state police he fired shots at an intruder in May eventually told state police he was instead aiming at a "ghost," a arrest warrant indicates.

Christian Devaux, 25, was picked up by Vernon police on Saturday and transferred to the state police Troop C barracks. He was charged with the illegal discharge of a firearm, the misuse of the 911 system, providing a false statement, disorderly conduct and second-degree reckless endangerment, according to an arrest report.

He posted a $5,000 bond and is due in court on Sept. 11.

The case dates back to 5:04 a.m. on July 26, when state police received a call from a home on Old Post Road. According to a warrant, the caller - Devaux - said he thought someone was breaking into his home. A dispatcher heard him yell, "Hey … hey …," and then heard two shots being fired.

State police responded to the area and looked for the "intruder" with a dog unit but could not locate anyone, according to a warrant.

Devaux said he encountered an intruder who had a rifle and fired two shots in his direction, according to a warrant.

The trajectory of the shots, however, did not match the descriptions of the events, according to a warrant. Devaux eventually told investigators there are some things he "can't explain ... like seeing ghosts," according to a warrant. He then told state police it was highly possible "that the man in his house was a ghost."

When asked again if the intruder were a ghost, Devaux answered "it had to be," a warrant indicates.

He also told state police that he hunts ghosts and specifically mentioned going to the former Mansfield Training School now owned by the University of Connecticut to look for them.
