Wyman on Storm Response: 'Hug a Plow Driver'

Connecticut Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman had a motherly message of support for road crews on Thursday.

HARTFORD/TOLLAND, CT — Lt. Gov Nancy Wyman had a motherly message for Connecticut residents on Thursday as a snowstorm raged across the state — hug a plow driver.

"Going to be a long day today — hug a plow truck driver ...," Wyman said on her Twitter feed.

She went on to say that state officials are reminding drivers, "to please give plow trucks plenty of room to do their work. Just stay off roads if you can."

Wyman knows the value of that message all too well. She is from Tolland, home to a notorious, hilly stretch of Interstate-84 between exits 67 and 69, known for its crashes.

Sure enough, as she was posting her Twitter messages at about 10 a.m., Tolland firefighters were responding to two crashes in I-84 eastbound just west of Exit 68.

Wyman was working at the state emergency operations center Thursday.

She said those in need of a warm place to stay can use the 211 information system to find shelter locations.
