340-Unit Senior Housing Development Planned For Trumbull
The project will be built at the former United Healthcare site on Monroe Turnpike.
TRUMBULL, CT — A 340-unit senior housing development is planned for the former United Healthcare site on Monroe Turnpike in Trumbull, after the Planning and Zoning Commission approved a zone change and site plan application this week.
The project will be built by Senior Living Development, LLC, and it will include active adult, independent living, assisted living, and memory care units. The 17.6-acre site has been vacant since 2015 and was purchased by the developer in 2018, according to officials.
"This project is a win, win, win, for Trumbull," said First Selectman Vicki Tesoro in a statement. "It will utilize a vacant and underperforming property in town. It will provide additional housing options to help keep residents in town. It will provide new jobs and new tax revenue to Trumbull. The area businesses, including medical offices, restaurants, and other retail establishments, will benefit from the new residents in the area. We appreciate the investment Senior Living Development is making. They have been extremely thoughtful in their design."

The complex is slated to provide a continuum of housing and related services for the 55 and older population. Additionally, the project will create over 200 temporary construction jobs and approximately 65 permanent jobs, officials said. Once the complex is fully built, it will generate more than $2 million in new tax revenue annually for Trumbull.
"It has been a three-year process to get to this point, which included a zone change, an appeal, wetlands approval, and this new zone change and site plan approval," officials said. "Senior Living Development is currently interviewing providers to joint venture the project and hopes to begin construction next year."
