TRUMBULL, CT — Four juveniles accused of crashing a stolen car in Trumbull and attempting to escape in an Uber were arrested early Monday morning.

In a news release, Police Lt. Brian Weir said an officer spotted a blue Hyundai Sonata speeding through Trumbull Center around 4 a.m. and continue up Church Hill Road toward Main Street.

The officer tried to catch up to the car but quickly lost sight of it. While searching the Main Street area, the officer saw two juveniles run from a wooded area behind a nearby gas station, Weir said.

Police were then called to the area to try and arrest four juveniles seen running near Clark Road, Weir said. A Westport police K9 officer also assisted police with tracking the juveniles.

Officers later found the Hyundai unoccupied and heavily damage deep in a wooded area off of Main Street after the vehicle ran off the road on Church Hill Road. Police also learned the Hyundai had been reported stolen in Meriden on Oct. 23, Weir said.

As officers continued to search the area, an Uber driver told police he had been called to pick up the four juveniles on Old Church Hill Road. An officer then recognized one of the juveniles as one of the occupants of the stolen vehicle who had fled from the wooded area, Weir said.

A 12-year-old Hamden resident, a 15-year-old West Haven resident, a 15-year-old New Haven resident and a 16-year-old New Haven resident were arrested and no injuries were reported as a result of the crash, Weir said.

Two stolen credit cards and a key fob belonging to another stolen vehicle were found in the 16-year-old juvenile's possession. Other items commonly used in car thefts, including screw drivers, USB cables and battery supplies, were also recovered from the juveniles, Weir said.

All four juveniles were charged with second-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny and interfering with an officer. The 16-year-old juvenile was also charged with two counts of credit card theft.

All four juveniles were released to their parents on a promise to appear in juvenile court next month, Weir said.
