500 Signatures Gathered Against Trumbull Community Center

First Selectman Tim Herbst refuted the petition and pointed to town surveys that showed support for the project.

TRUMBULL, CT- An online petition asking that all residents be surveyed before proceeding with building a community center has garnered more than 500 signatures.

The town has allocated $175,000 to hire an architect to design the facility.

"This money is being spent despite the fact that the need for a new senior center has not been established; initial resident surveys were ill-designed and elicited poor response rates," wrote petition creator Eric Paulson.

First Selectman Tim Herbst told the Trumbull Times that there have been five town surveys since 1999 and every time an overwhelming majority supported a community center.

Democrat and former first selectman challenger Vicki Tesoro said the online petition has gathered more than 500 signatures in a little more than a week while a town survey gathered 426 during a five-month period.
