TRUMBULL, CT — Police said two people were arrested early Sunday morning after a handgun with an obliterated serial number and drugs were found in a car parked in Trumbull.

In a news release, Police Lt. Brian Weir said the car was found parked at a hotel on Hawley Lane with its engine running around 5 a.m.

An officer approached the vehicle and found Valerie Fleurimont, 29, of Trumbull, sitting in the front passenger seat and Shaun Reed, 37, of Bridgeport, laying down asleep in the back seat, Weir said.

As the officer spoke with Fleurimont, she said the driver was coming right back and she did not know anyone inside the vehicle. She also said she was not from the area, according to Weir.

As the officer continued to speak with Fleurimont, she ignored the officer's questions and began to text on her phone, according to Weir.

While speaking with Fleurimont, the officer noticed a silver handgun near her. When asked to step out of the car, Fleurimont refused, Weir said.

After continuing to disobey the officer's commands, Fleurimont eventually exited the vehicle on her own and was arrested. She was also found to be in possession of an ecstasy pill, Weir said.

Reed was also asked to step out the car and officers found a small plastic bag containing crack cocaine, several wax folds consistent with heroin and over $700 cash in his possession, according to Weir.

Reed told police someone else must have driven his vehicle because he was intoxicated and did not

remember. He also denied having any knowledge about the firearm, Weir said.

Officers found the Smith & Wesson handgun had its serial number scratched off and was loaded with six bullets, with one round chambered, according to Weir. A baseball bat was also within reach of both passengers.

Clonazepam and oxycontin pills were also found in the back passenger area of the car near Reed, Weir said.

According to Weir, Reed is a convicted felon and is ineligible to possess a firearm, while Fleurimont does not have a permit to carry pistols.

Fleurimont was charged with possession of a controlled substance, two counts of illegal possession of weapons in a motor vehicle, carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal alteration of firearm and interfering with an officer. She was held on a $75,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court later this month, according to Weir.
