"An Enemy of the People" Review
Brief review of the current Broadway production of "An Enemy of the People"

This fresh and slightly modernized take on Henrik Ibsen’s classic play Enemy of the People was no doubt the most captivating stage performance I’ve ever seen. This revival stars 4-time Tony winner Boyd Gaines and Emmy winner Richard Thomas. The play is about the two brothers, Dr. Stockmann (Gaines) and Mayor Peter Stockmann (Thomas) who come to an impasse after the doctor discovers that the town’s major source of revenue, a supposed therapeutic springs bathing house, is in fact heavily contaminated. When news reaches the mayor, he sees this ‘helpful’ news as something that can destroy the town’s economy. When word gets out of the mayor’s thoughts on the matter, the doctor is not helmed as a hero, but as a threat to the entire town, as an enemy of the people.
In an equally comedic and dramatic two-hour thriller, Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s adaptation of the play captivates every audience, with theatergoers at the edge of their seats. Directed by Doug Hughes and featuring a beautiful score by David Van Tieghem and incredible set design by John Lee Beatty, Enemy of the People is a must-see performance. The production officially opens on Thursday, September 27th at it’s current home, the Samuel J. Freidman Theatre in New York City. For tickets and other information, visit http://www.telecharge.com/
