I don’t want to be a Politician, I just want to make Mud Pies.

The truth is there will always be people who have alternate conflicting agendas, who will throw stones in your path.

Although in my particular case, as chairman of the Trumbull Nature Commission (Trumbull Nature & Arts Center), this Blog title has meaning both figuratively, and literally, I think many people who have been involved in town initiatives can relate to this statement.

You may take on a project or initiative for no other reason than it is ‘right, and good’. It has both intrinsic value and instrumental value, so making progress, and reaching your goal should be a ‘walk in the park’ right?

Not so fast, folks.

It is sometimes referred to as ‘politics’, and therefor accepted as a valid response, or excuse for poor, misguided, or unethical behavior. Many people will tell you, you must grab a ‘pawn’, and play the game.

I, and others want to create a place within our community where people of all ages can gather, have fun, learn, and be inspired by Nature and Art. I want today’s children to learn the joy of exploring the outdoors, learning critical thinking skills through hands on learning, and the significance of becoming environmental stewards of our earth. I want this magical place to still be here in 100 years. I want it to be both self-sustainable through a smart business model, and physically sustainable through green technologies. I want it to be a cultural entity that will support positive economic growth, by attracting desirable local businesses to Trumbull.

It all sounds great, right?

I hope this year the community, and our elected officials will speak out more and let their support for TNAC count. We have delivered 100’s of educational programs to thousands of people in schools, scouts and community. TNAC needs a viable location to call 'home'.

Like in Dr.Seuss’s, ‘Horton Hears a Who”, sometimes it takes a ‘bull horn’ to be heard. Please bring out your favorite instrument this year, and make some noise.
