It is the Era of the Granola-head
It is critical to our survival to study, maintain, manage and protect our Natural Resources.
For many years environmentalists, or those who studied and worked to maintain, and protect our natural resources, were seen as Granola heads, or tree huggers. Their work and mission was often ridiculed or pushed a side as nonessential. Many acted as though our natural resources were endless.
Today that has changed somewhat and it time for those who have worked hard towards this goal, to shine. While it has always been important work, and just ignorance that created this poor image of environmentalist, folks are finally starting to understand the value and urgency in teaching environmental stewardship, and maintaining, and protecting our natural resources.
In fact, it has become critical to study, maintain, manage and protect these resources.

Maintaining and preserving are 2 different philosophies. Maintaining means actively managing our resources and to some degree manipulating success of our efforts to ensure sustainability. In some case ‘preserving’ by nonuse, can be the only or even more practical option, but sustainability is not always eminent, as nature takes its course.
We must also teach our younger generations how nature functions, the chains and webs that connects us to our survival, the survival of other species, and sustainability of our land, and planet.

We need to practice & teach balance.
This generation of children today, if inspired to study and understand how nature functions, coupled with their advanced technological skills, has the potential to become the most successful generation, as far as solving world issues in energy, world hunger, and cures for disease.
What can be more important this?
So, to all the ‘granola-heads’ and ‘tree-huggers’ who have worked hard to maintain, protect and respect our natural resources in Trumbull, our state, and our world, take a big bow.
It is because of you that we may survive as a species, and as part of the natural web of life on earth.
Thank you.
