Just like all of us, Jesus came to a point in his life when he had to figure out who he was, what he was supposed to be doing and who he wanted to associate with. For good or bad, we all have people in our lives that are put there by birth and circumstance. Then there are also the people that we seek out and choose to spend our lives with. Here in the Gospel of Mark we get to witness Jesus as he makes the decision to spend his life among people who put God first. And since we know Jesus ended up choosing to spend a lot of his time with “tax collectors and sinners,” we are assured that the people who truly put God first are not always the ones you might expect. The people who put God first in their lives are usually the people who’ve gotten to know that God is more than just a positive concept through their own trials, mistakes and hardships. People who put God first are the people who know how desperately they need God’s love, healing and guidance. Who do you most often choose to spend your life with? Where does God fall in your list of priorities in life? Do you spend time with God? Do you spend time getting to know Jesus?
