"Welcome to Arroyo's" a comedy about loss, love and redemption

HCC students will perform May 3rd, 4th and 5th in the Performing Arts Center of Housatonic Community College. Read article for more info on this FREE Event!

Housatonic Community College offers a course titled "Theatre Arts Practicum", in which 8 to 10 students, under the instruction of Theatre Arts coordinator, Geoffrey Sheehan, practice several acting exercises and select and rehearse a full-length play. The Spring 2012 Semester class will be performing Kristoffer Diaz's 2008 Play, "Welcome to Arroyo's" a Lower-East Side, 2004 set comedy about hip hop, dealing with loss, personal redemption, and finding love in strange places.

Alejandro Arroyo, a 24-year-old lounge owner who is silently coping with his mother's recent death, keeping his graffiti-writing sister Amalia, who goes by the name "Molly", out of trouble with the police and trying to get new customers to his underperforming lounge.

Molly is a troubled and rebellious 18 year old girl who talks to her late mother, looking for answers and guidance, but seems to recieve no responses. While writing her name on the police station wall, she stumbles upon Officer Derek, a rookie cop who was transferred from Boston, who's trying to find his place in the new city, but Molly is giving him a hard time every time they meet.

Lelly Santiago, a young puerto rican college student, who once lived in the Lower East Side, is trying prove that the long lost hip-hop DJ "Reina Rey" and Alejandro's late mother are the same person. All the while the play is observed and narrated by Alejandro's two outspoken and hilarious employees Trip Goldstien and Nelson Cardenal.
