Update: Car From Trumbull Marriott Carjacking Found Torched after Bank Robbery

Police found the car torched in the Trumbull Westfield Mall parking lot shortly after a bank robbery at nearby People's United Bank.

Police are looking for two suspects who robbed People’s United Bank, fled in a vehicle stolen in a carjacking Thursday at the Trumbull Marriott and then set the vehicle on fire in the Trumbull Westfield Mall, according to police.

The two men entered the bank, located on Madison Avenue, around 9:15 a.m. and displayed handguns before they jumped over the teller counter and demanded cash from the drawers, said Lt. Leonard Scinto, Trumbull police spokesman.

Both men had masks on and were wearing gloves. They took an undetermined amount of cash from the drawers and no one was injured.

The men then fled in a gray Ford Fusion that had been stolen during a carjacking at the Trumbull Marriott on Hawley Lane Thursday.

Police found the vehicle parked in the nearby Trumbull Westfield Mall where it had been set on fire. The suspects fled the area in two separate vehicles.

One vehicle was a small white pick-up truck similar to an older model Chevrolet S-10. The other vehicle was a newer model black or other dark-colored Jeep Cherokee with dark tinted windows.

Both fled south on Madison Avenue into Bridgeport.

The robbery is the second of the week in Trumbull. The Webster Bank at 2 Daniels Farm Road was robbed on Sept. 23.

“It appears the person who robbed the Webster bank in Trumbull center is a different person,” Scinto said. “That person is suspect in several other robberies this week.”

Police along with the FBI and other law enforcement agencies are investigating the case. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 203-261-3665. The Connecticut Bankers Association is offering a cash reward for information leading to an arrest.
