The Center for Family Justice Receives United Illuminating Grant
Grant Will Support Energy-Efficiency In Its New Domestic Violence Safe House
The Center for Family Justice has received a $5,000 grant from United Illuminating under Connecticut’s Neighborhood Assistance Act tax credit program.
The funding will help CFJ complete the construction of Empower House, it’s new domestic violence safe house, by helping support the installation of energy efficient windows throughout the building, which is currently undergoing extensive renovations. The Empower House will expand CFJ’s ability to provide safe, supportive shelter to adults and children impacted by domestic abuse in the communities of Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Monroe, Stratford, and Trumbull.
“We are extremely grateful to United Illuminating and its parent company, AVANGRID, Inc., for its generous support of the Empower House Project with this grant,” said Debra A. Greenwood, President & CEO of The Center for Family Justice. “As we renovate our newly expanded safe house, this support will help us achieve our goal of creating a safe, comfortable and energy-efficient environment for our clients.”

Since 2010, UI, SCG and CNG has awarded $4.2 million in grants through the NAA Program, which offers a corporate tax credit to encourage businesses to provide financial support to qualified local nonprofit organizations.
“We are mindful of the many people in our communities who are suffering as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic – and of the important roles nonprofit organizations play in supporting them,” said Frank Reynolds, President of UI, SCG and CNG. “This program allows us to help our nonprofit partners achieve ongoing energy savings, allowing our partners to focus their resources on the critical programs and services that they provide.”
The 2021 NAA grants supported a wide variety of projects undertaken by community organizations across the UI, SCG and CNG service territories. A full listing of the projects supported can be found at NAA tax credit Program.
