The Trumbull Volunteer Fire Company has shared some safety reminders to ensure residents stay safe this holiday season.
TRUMBULL, CT — As families in Trumbull put up their Christmas trees and other holiday decorations, the Trumbull Volunteer Fire Company has shared some safety reminders to ensure residents stay safe this holiday season.
The following safety tips were shared to Facebook by the Trumbull Volunteer Fire Company, No. 1, Inc.:

1. Keep Away From Heat: Make sure your tree is at least 3 feet away from any heat source, like an air duct, radiator, fireplace, or space heater.
2. Keep it Watered: Water your tree daily. Shedding or dry needles could mean the tree is drying out, increasing overall fire risk.

3. Examine Cords: Examine all extension cords and lights for signs of damage. Frayed cords should be discarded.
4. Inspect Lights: Inspect all decorations before using them. Damaged lights, electrical sockets, or exposed wires are all fire hazards.
5. Don’t Leave Your Tree on Unattended: If you aren’t going to be home, turn off and unplug your tree lights.
