Colin Keyes Has Five Hits; Trumbull Routs Centralia (Wash.) In Babe Ruth Series

Keyes ties a tournament record for hits in a game as Trumbull advances to the quarterfinals with a 15-6 victory in Jamestown, N.Y.

Colin Keyes tied a tournament record with five hits Wednesday as Trumbull routed Centralia, Wash., 15-6 to advance to the quarterfinals of the 13-15 Babe Ruth World Series in Jamestown, N.Y.

Keyes, who also drove in three runs, matched a tournament mark held by five others.

Trumbull, which concluded pool play at 2-2, finished as the No. 3 seed in the National Division and will take on the No. 2 seed in the American Division on Thursday at 7:35 p.m. in the quarterfinals.

Trumbull, which banged out 20 hits, scored six runs in the third inning, three in the fifth, four in the sixth and two in the seventh to win going away.

Keyes had two doubles and Ryan Fitz delivered a triple to support winning pitcher Stan Wolpiuk.

Vincent Ciambriello and Matt Von Schleusingen each added three hits for Trumbull while Chris Masi, Jeff Sam and Wolpiuk each contributed a pair.

Willy Velez and Masi drove in three runs apiece, Fritz two and Carl Johnson and Wolpiuk one each for the winners.

Centralia completed pool play with a 1-3 record.

Sarasota (Fla.) and Tri-Township (Pa.), who are both 3-0, will play for the National Division championship later Wednesday with the winner receiving a bye into the semifinals.
