Gesualdi Leads Darien To 31-7 Win Over St. Joseph

The junior rushed for two touchdowns and also had a pair of interceptions as the Blue Wave improved to 3-0 and dropped the Cadets to 0-3

Peter Gesualdi rushed for two touchdowns and also had two interceptions Saturday, leading the Darien football team to a 31-7 victory over St. Joseph in Trumbull.

The Blue Wave improved to 3-0 while the Cadets dropped to 0-3.

Last week, Darien rallied from a 19-3 halftime deficit to defeat Fairfield Warde, 29-19, but the Blue Wave did not need any second-half heroics Saturday after building a 21-7 halftime lead.

After Gesualdi opened the scoring on a 21-yard TD run, the Cadets grabbed a 7-6 lead following the first quarter on Pat Boyle's 19-yard TD pass to Jake Pellitier.

Darien's defense clamped down, however, blanking St. Joseph scoreless over the final three quarters.

Henry Baldwin's 55-yard TD strike to Corey Eppley put the Blue Wave ahead for good, and Gesualdi added his second score on a 11-yard TD run to make it 21-7 at the intermission.

After Chris Smith booted a 29-yard field goal in the third quarter, Baldwin capped the scoring with a 14-yard TD pass to Eppley in the fourth period.

Darien looks to improve to 4-0 when its visits Danbury on Thursday while St. Joseph will seek its first win when it plays at Stamford on Thursday.
