An ad by First Selectman Timothy Herbst’s campaign draws comparisons of opponent Vicki Tesoro to Gov. Dan Malloy.

“My opponent stood in lock step with Dan Malloy instead of standing up for the families of Trumbull,” Herbst says in the ad, which has been viewed more than 16,000 times on Facebook.

The ad takes aim at the chance that General Electric would leave the state. Many GE workers live in Trumbull, Herbst said, according to the Connecticut Post.

Tesoro said to the Connecticut Post that the ad manipulates her sound bites and takes them out of context. She also said it appears her opponent is running against Malloy.

Herbst said Tesoro would do to Trumbull what Malloy did to Connecticut and stood by the message, according to the Post.

Herbst ran for state treasurer in 2014 and narrowly lost to longtime incumbent Denise Nappier.
