Herbst Tells Supporters He Is Seeking Governor Seat: Report

Herbst said in a fundraiser message that his exploratory committee is for the governor's seat.

TRUMBULL, CT — First Selectman Tim Herbst wrote in a fundraising letter that his exploratory committee for state office is for the governor's seat.

He would need $250,000 in contributions ranging from $5 to $100 to qualify for public campaign funding, , according to the Connecticut Post.

Republican Mayor Mark Boughton is also seeking a shot at becoming governor and Republican State Sen. Tony Hwang from Fairfield is seeking a state-level office.

Herbst narrowly lost to longtime State Treasurer incumbent Denise Nappier in 2014. He narrowly won re-election for first selectman in 2015.
