Herbst: Malloy Should Refuse Pension, Share in Sacrifice

Herbst argued that Malloy should lead by example and change retirement plans.

TRUMBULL, CT- First Selectman Tim Herbst called for the "shared sacrifice" of Connecticut's new economic reality to start at the top with Gov. Dannel Malloy.

In an op-ed, Herbst said that Malloy should move to a defined-contribution plan from his pension. Herbst said that he refused a pension and created a defined-contribution plan for non-union town employees.

Herbst's plan when he ran for state treasurer in 2014 was to move all constitutional officers, members of the General Assembly, agency heads and political appointees to defined-contribution retirement plans in order to save money.
