Herbst Nominated to Run for a Fourth Term in Trumbull

The Republican Town Committee endorsed Herbst for another term. Herbst outlined his goals for the town by 2025.

First Selectman Tim Herbst was nominated by the Republican Town Committee to run for first selectman again.

Herbst would enter a fourth term if elected. Democrats recently nominated Vicki Tesoro at their town committee meeting to run against Herbst.

Herbst said in his acceptance speech that the town has come a long way in six years. He said borrowing was out of control and education priorities were misaligned.

He said the town is stronger financially now than six years ago and that his team identified $1 million in operational savings within the first 100 days in office. The town has also saved $7.2 million after refinancing existing debt and going to a self-insurance plan, according to Herbst.

Herbst also outlined his Trumbull 2025 plan, which includes a goal of achieving a AAA credit rating by 2025.

The plan also includes:

  • Making every Trumbull school energy efficient with an emphasis on renewable sources like solar.
  • Expand advanced placement and foreign language offerings.
  • Make commercial properties 33 percent of the entire grand list by 2025 to stabilize and reduce residential property taxes.
  • Make corporate park the envy of Fairfield county.
  • Repave half of town roads and make town facilities energy efficient.
  • Body cameras for all patrol police officers and school resource officers in middle and high schools.
